1. Introduction
The Rise of Mobbing in the Workplace and the Critical Need for Cybersecurity
Workplace bullying, or mobbing, is an alarming phenomenon that is rapidly increasing and often takes digital form with the aim of isolating and psychologically pressuring employees. In cases where complaints involve allegations of harassment via corporate messages, exclusion from meetings, or other practices, cybersecurity becomes essential for collecting and presenting irrefutable evidence.
As a Cybersecurity Expert, our role is to assist the legal team in supporting the client with solid evidence by leveraging specialized tools and techniques to detect digital traces, analyze communications, and reconstruct events that support the mobbing case.
2. Case Analysis of Mobbing in a Corporate Environment
Client Complaints and Evidence of Psychological Pressure
The law firm represented an employee at a large company in Athens who reported multi-layered psychological pressure, aimed at forcing them to resign. Complaints included repeated offensive comments, extreme overtime, frequent unrealistic deadlines, and systematic exclusion from significant company meetings.
Our role was to support the client’s claims by detecting and collecting electronic traces that substantiated the mobbing incidents. These findings provided evidence of psychological harassment, strengthening the case with objective digital proof.
3. Technical Tools and Research Techniques Used
In this case, we used cybersecurity tools and digital forensic techniques essential for detecting mobbing.
Forensic Analysis: Corporate Email and Communication Application Analysis
Using forensic analysis techniques, we analyzed the communication flow through corporate email and chat systems. Forensic analysis tools allowed us to log the negative and derogatory messages received by the client. These messages revealed personal attacks and systematic degradation by specific colleagues and superiors, providing evidence of coordinated pressure.
Access Management Data: Blocking Data Extraction
Analyzing Access Management data was also critical. Through the company’s access system, we discovered that the client had been repeatedly excluded from meetings. Using SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools, we found records of invitations proving that they were not invited to meetings where their colleagues were present.
Workflow Analysis: Monitoring Workflow and Overtime
Workflow and overtime data were also revealing. By conducting a workflow analysis using ERP systems or project management software, we analyzed the overload of responsibilities and work pace imposed on the client. A statistical comparison of the client’s working hours with those of other colleagues highlighted the disproportionate pressure they were under.
Digital Artifacts: Recovery of Digital Traces from Corporate Chats
Digital artifacts from corporate chats provided further evidence of harassment. Using eDiscovery software, we retrieved messages and “jokes” that demonstrated the derogatory and offensive tone the client faced daily. These logs documented the timing of incidents, proving the persistent and repeated nature of the mobbing.
HR Data Review: Analysis of Biased Evaluations
Finally, an analysis of Human Resources (HR) data was conducted. Through the performance evaluation history, we found evidence of biased reviews aimed at creating pressure on the client. By using data mining and pattern recognition, we identified that the client’s ratings were unusually low compared to their colleagues.
4. Conclusion and the Vital Role of Cybersecurity in Modern Workplaces
As mobbing incidents multiply, the need for specialized cybersecurity solutions is more urgent than ever. The ability to analyze digital traces and process communication data provides crucial tools for proving the psychological pressure employees face.
Our role as Cybersecurity Experts is to strengthen cases with indisputable evidence. Digital forensic solutions not only offer cybersecurity defense but also provide the proof professionals need to protect themselves from workplace bullying.
