Francisco Ibáñez was a genius of Spanish comics, the creator of unforgettable characters like Mortadelo and Filemón, Pepe Gotera and Otilio, Rompetechos, and many more. His stories, full of humor, adventures, and social criticism, have made generations of readers around the world laugh.
Born in Barcelona in 1930, Ibáñez started drawing comics at a young age, and in 1958, he published the first adventure of Mortadelo and Filemón in the magazine Pulgarcito, published by Bruguera. This marked the beginning of a long and successful career, in which Ibáñez created other famous series like La Familia Trapisonda, 13, Rue del Percebe, El botones Sacarino, and many more.
Ibáñez received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the Golden Ring, the Grand Prize at the Comic Salon, and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. His comics have been translated into more than 30 languages and adapted for film, television, and video games.
Until the end of his life, Ibáñez continued creating new stories of Mortadelo and Filemón, with current topics such as El Tesorero, ¡Elecciones!, ¡Miseria, la Bacteria!, and Drones Matones. Francisco Ibáñez passed away in 2023, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of Spanish comics.
